Does Your Perfectionism Help You Up or Hold You Down?

“Does Your Perfectionism Help You Up or Hold You Down?”

When you stop to think about the last hour, the last day or the last week – what thoughts immediately come to mind?  Are you calm, relaxed and satisfied?  Did you complete the tasks planned for that time?  How is your schedule for the rest of the week? Goals on-track and next steps ready for execution?

Is your heartbeat speeding up as you read each question?  Do you look back over the last few hours, days or weeks and wonder where in the world the time went?

You are not alone.  People struggling with “perfectionism” have more obstacles in every day activities than others.

You look around and see other parents somehow juggle kids, school and mealtime with ease.  Business colleagues around you are busy checking tasks off ToDo lists, running productive meetings, enjoying lunch outside the cafeteria and leaving the office in plenty of time for quality family time.

Your days somehow disappear into mountains of email, mounds of laundry and preparation of mystery  meals.  Business tasks planned for Monday, move down the calendar each day, replaced by miscellaneous activities that arrive on your desk with some assumption of urgency or importance…or the worse culprit – the “it will just take a minute” tasks that start as molehills and grow into monstrous mountains within seconds.

Ask yourself – Does your Perfectionism help or hurt?  Then decide whether it’s worth the consequences.  Watch this site for more information and suggestions on combating Perfectionism by simply being “picky”.
